Dear Pet Owner:

Congratulations on the decision to spay or neuter your pet!!!  This decision may be one of the most important decisions that you make to help your pet live a long and healthy life.  By taking proactive action you can help prevent unwanted litters of offspring; heat periods; reduce aggressive behavior in male dogs; and prevent uterine, mammary, testicular, and prostate cancer in your pet.

Spays and neuters are routine surgical procedures.  However, there is always risk to your pet when performing any surgical procedure.  Millhopper Veterinary Medical Center only provides the highest quality of care and adheres to strict standards to ensure the well being of your pet.  Prior to the day of surgery your pet will need to be fasted. In order to provide the best medical care for your pet, your pet will receive the following treatments to ensure their well-being for this his or her surgical procedure:

  • Pre-Surgical Examination

  • Pre-Operative Blookwork

  • IV Catheter/Fluid Therapy

  • Post-Operative Pain Relief Injection

Following your pet's surgery, he/she will need to be restricted from activities such as jumping, unsupervised walks, and grooming his or her incision.  The attending veterinarian will make specific recommendations on aftercare for your pet.  Ten to fourteen days post surgery your pet may need to return for suture removal.

Your pet's welfare is our first concern.  The decision to sterilize your pet is an important one.  We encourage  you to schedule an appointment to do so at your first convenience.  Please feel free to call us if you have any further questions about this decision. Sincerely,

Dr. Richard Goldman, DVM
